Niche Vehicle Industry Skills Mapping Study

The UK niche automotive sector is seeing an increasing demand for workforce at every level – from shop floor technicians to designers, engineers and management. This situation is exasperated by the growth in new technologies resulting from the desire to meet ever stricter legislative requirements. Enhanced safety combined with lower emissions is necessitating increasingly complicated solutions involving novel structural and body in white light weighting allied to hybrid drivetrains and the downsizing of combustion engines. As such the niche automotive workforce needs to change and evolve to meet these new challenges.

To help our sector better understand the current and future employee skills and educational requirements the Niche Vehicle Network has been awarded funding from BIS to undertake an initial top level study reviewing the education and vocational routes into the niche automotive manufacturing and supply chain sector. This study aims to consider all potential avenues from entry level automotive NVQ programmes to degree courses and niche OEM training provision.

As a member of the Niche Vehicle Network, your input to this research is essential so that we can better understand the ongoing and future employment needs of our sector. The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

The results of the above research will be presented at the Niche Vehicle Symposium on the 16th of March.
